Last week’s episode of the Vampire Diaries on the CW ended with both Bonnie and Elena being kidnapped by two different vampires so, I was surprised to see this week’s episode Fool Me Once begin with Elena looking her usually gorgeous self, sleeping comfortably in a nice pretty bed. Turns out it was not so nice since – as she became aware of her surroundings – she notices Ana’s vampire friend sitting in a chair near her and she’s in a ratty hotel. The man is sleeping so Elena sneaks past him to escape but he stops her as Ana returns. They shove her into the bathroom and Elena find Bonnie passed out in the bathtub. Ana finally brings Elena outside to talk about the situation. She tells Elena the reason she is doing this is to get her mother out of the tomb and Elena actually feels sorry for her – but not for long.
Stefan has been desperately searching for Elena and goes to Vampire Diaries bad boy Damon for help. Damon refuses and tells Stefan that he hopes Elena dies. He is still angry about their betrayal last week. Elena is back trying to help Bonnie in the bathroom. They figure out that they want Bonnie to work her magic on the Grimoire to open the tomb and they have Elena as leverage to make Bonnie do it. Damon goes over to Bonne’s grandmother looking for Bonnie but the grandmother is too strong for him and he is chased off.
Ana meets Jeremy on the street and he invites her to a party. Ana also finds Damon and she makes an appointment to meet him later that night to begin opening the tomb, which happens to be near where the party is. Stefan shows up at the ratty hotel after Bonnie’s grandmother told him where to find the two girls and busts down the door, putting the vampire guard in the sunlight but letting him live at the last minute. Ana returns to the hotel room and finds Elena and Bonnie gone, causing her to change her plan – now she will follow Damon because he has the Grimoire and she knows he is going to find a way to get that tomb open.
Elena has gone to Damon to ask for his trust, removing the vervain to prove her loyalty. She wants to get Katherine out so that she can finally end all of this fighting. He decides to trust her – believe it or not – and so the adventure begins. Time to go and actually open the tomb. Every young, warm-blooded teenager in Mystic Falls is at the party in the cemetery right next to the church where the tomb is. This means plenty of nice warm bodies to feed the vampires when the tomb opens. Bonnie, her grandmother, Stefan, Elena, and Damon are all gathered around the tomb with the Grimoire, preparing to break the spell. Elena just wants to get it all over with while Stefan has brought a flamethrower to kill the vampires if they get out. He wants to be sure only Katherine gets out. Bonne’s grandmother begins chanting her spells and Damon has a canister of blood ready for Katherine when he finds her.
You know, if vampires exist, I’ll bet Starbucks would come out with a blood-filled drink that costs about $10.00. I’m just saying. You know they’d capitalize on this.
Okay, back to the Vampire Diaries episode.
Ana has come to the party and met up with Jeremy which can mean nothing but trouble. Jeremy is finally starting to warm up to Ana, having no idea that she is a vampire. You can tell he wants to take things a little further with her but she informs him that she will be moving away soon with her mother. This prompts him to kiss her and her vampire buddy cold-cocks him from behind.
The tomb begins to open and Damon insists that Elena go inside with him as leverage. Ana finds Stefan guarding the tomb and she tells him that she will kill Jeremy if she cannot go in to get her mother. He has no choice and off she goes inside the tomb, passing an unbelieving Bonnie in the process.
Damon is so eager to find Katherine that he has left Elena alone inside. She can hear hissing and she starts to panic. Bonnie finds out after Ana enters the tomb that it does not matter that they are going in there, because the witches chanting did not truly break the seal, it only opened the door so a vampire can get in – but they can’t get out. Elena can leave anytime – she is human.
Stefan is outside, ready to kill any vampires that escape, but he starts with Ana’s vampire buddy who is holding Jeremy – he’s now free. Meanwhile, Elena is freaking out inside the tomb as she finds numerous dead bodies (I mean, hello Elena, it’s a tomb). Stefan hears Elena’s screams and he tries to run in but Bonnie’s grandmother tells him that the seal is not really broken and only a human will be able to leave.
Ana finds Elena all alone in the tomb and attacks her for her “Gilbert” blood because she wants to revive her mother. When Elena screams this time, Stefan enters anyway, knowing he will not be able to leave – what a guy…. Bonnie begs her grandmother to break the seal so Stefan and Elena can leave. Stefan saves the day as he pulls Elena away from Ana but not before Ana’s mother gets enough blood to revive a little. Ana is ecstatic to see her mother and forgets about everyone else. Elena runs outside but Stefan cannot get out. Bonnie assures Elena that they will fix everything. Elena tells Stefan they have to make sure Damon gets out when the witches bring the seal down because it will be temporary and he cannot withstand another betrayal. Stefan runs to find Damon to get him near the entrance when the seal comes down. Stefan finds Damon freaking out because Katherine is not inside the tomb. She never had been and he has been betrayed again. He smashes the blood he brought in for her against the wall as he vents his frustration.
The witches begin breaking the seal as Stefan tries to get Damon back to the door. Ana leaves with her mother as the seal breaks promising not to hurt Jeremy or anyone – she just wanted her mother. Elena runs back in to beg Damon to leave and he finally comes out for her. I have a feeling that Damon and Elena will be feeling some interesting things in the future. Finally, the seal is broken and everyone escapes. Elena hugs Damon and tells him how sorry she is for the fact that Katherine was never inside. Stefan gives them both a strange, sad look – hmmm. Was that a bit of Vampire Diaries foreshadowing?
Back at the party, while all this other tomb-opening stuff has been happening about 100 yards away, Matt and Caroline are having a heart to heart about how they want their relationship to be and it is very sweet. Jeremy is awake and has a headache from drinking too much. He doesn’t remember anything but you know he is suspicious about something because the next thing we see is him researching vampires on the internet.
Ana and her mother go back to the hotel and Damon is waiting for them inside. He is angry because he knows Ana knew the whole time that Katherine was alive. She tells him that she is sorry but he would not have helped her if he had known. Ana’s mother tells him that the night they were sealed into the tomb, Katherine bribed a guard and he let her go. Ana tells him that Katherine has always known where Damon was and she does not care. She has not seen Katherine since 1983 and Damon is completely crushed. Bonnie also has to face major pain of her own when her grandmother dies in her sleep.
The last scene of this week’s Vampire Diaries episode shows the blood that Damon threw on the walls of the tomb giving sustenance to the vampires still locked in there. One of the decrepit looking vampires is walking to the entrance of the tomb as the show ends. The part I am looking most forward to is seeing how Elena is going to handle the Salvatore brothers when Katherine returns – because you know she will return. Just like women always like the “bad boys”, men like “bad girls” too. How will sweet, little Elena compare to experienced Katherine who has so much history with these two brothers?
It will also be interesting to see Nina Dobrov play two different roles! Can’t wait for more Vampire Diaries episodes!
The Children of the Damned starts out this week’s episode of the Vampire Diaries TV show with vampires looking the way we expect them to – lots of teeth and blood. We have flashed back to the 1800′s and there is Katherine, the vampire we have all been hearing about, taking involuntary and violent donations of blood from unsuspecting carriages as they pass by. Damon lies in the road acting like he is dead to help Katherine stop carriages. After watching her kill two men in a rather horrible fashion, he cannot wait to become a vampire himself and they seal the deal with a kiss – a nasty, bloody, “make me a vampire” kind of kiss.
Moving back to the Vampire Diaries present, Stefan and Elena are snuggling in bed when Damon interrupts them to get to work on opening Katherine’s tomb. Damon wants Elena to look for her Grandfather’s journal while he and Stefan look for the rogue vampire running around town. Flash back to the past again – to the 1800′s – and Damon and Katherine are also snuggling in bed. They are also interrupted by someone. Pearl, another town vampire, shows up to speak to Katherine and let her know that the townspeople know that vampires are in town and they are selling vervain in the stores to stop vampire attacks. Pearl recommends they leave town but Katherine has moved in with the Salvatore brothers and she likes it that way. We then see that Pearl’s daughter is Ana – she’s the new vampire in Mystic Falls in the year 2010.
Ana is still looking for the journal just like everyone else and, even though she has recently turned the bartender from the restaurant into her spy, she still needs Jeremy to get it. Ana leaves a message for Jeremy to call her but to no avail. Elena is spending her day with Stefan looking for the Grimoire. They are also discussing the fact that Damon has absolutely no redeeming qualities. Stefan tells her how for 145 years, Damon has done nothing but cause him trouble. He has no intention of really helping Damon open the tomb, but they will continue to pretend like they are. Jeremy enters about this time and he informs them that the journal is with his teacher Ulrich.
Ulrich has been reading the journal and the scene flashes back to see some of the characters from Mystic Fall’s early history up close. Stefan’s father, Giuseppe, Mr. Gilbert, and Mr. Lockman are looking at the vampire compass introduced in last week’s Vampire Diaries episode. They are discussing a plan that includes the old church we have seen in the woods so many times. They have a plan to stop the vampires and they think it will work. Giuseppe plans to ask his sons for help in stopping the vampires.
Ana is back at school looking for Ulrich. She wants that journal and resorting to violence is no problem. Lucky for her, Ulrich is one of those dedicated teachers that goes to school at midnight when no one else is around to grade papers. Yeah, right….but it makes tracking him so much easier – or so she thinks. Ulrich knows something is up and he has his vampire killing weapons with him, but, just as he is about to kill whoever is stalking him, Stefan jumps out. And Stefan is not to happy to be almost killed – he forces Ulrich to tell him who he really is.
Ulrich tells Stefan that his wife had been researching the area as a parapsychologist and she was killed by a vampire. Stefan asks him for the journal but it has disappeared. Ana has it now and as she reads, the scene flashes back to Mr. Gilbert writing about Pearl, describing her as the most beautiful woman in town. Pearl is talking to Katherine and telling her not to turn the two Salvatore brothers. Giuseppe is talking to Stefan and Damon about the town being in danger, making sure they will help. This leads them into a confrontation about the fact that Damon is a confederate deserter who deserves no respect but at least he can help protect the town. Giuseppe tells the brothers that vampires are real and they have to be stopped.
Back in the year 2010, Stefan is talking to Ulrich about his wife’s death. He tells him that Damon killed her and Stefan warns him that revenge is going to lead to nothing but disaster. Her body was never found but he saw Damon draining the life out of her. Stefan offers to help Ulrich because he cannot fight Vampire Diaries bad boy Damon alone.
Damon is back home with Elena and Jenna – flirting with Elena in his own special way. He asks Elena if she trusts Stefan and if he, Stefan, is able to trust her. Damon flashes back to Katherine playing croquet with the Salvatore family. She is telling Damon and Giuseppe how much they can trust her. Stefan thinks they should tell their father about Katherine. He is sure Giuseppe would not kill Katherine but Damon begs Stefan not to tell him because he knows his father would kill her.
Damon comes back to the present telling Elena how much he trusted and loved Katherine. He tells Elena that he will do anything to get her back. Damon and Jeremy are playing video games later in the living room when Jeremy gets another call from Ana that he avoids, prompting Damon to tell him that if the girl is hot, that trumps the fact that she is weird. Wonderful guidance, but what else do you expect from Damon?
Stefan shows up to tell Damon that the journal is gone. Damon quizzes Jeremy and finds out that Ana is the only other person that knows about the journal so they decide to go the grill to meet her. Could this “journal” be the Vampire “Diary” which gives this series the name of Vampire Diaries . . . ?
Back to the story.
Bonnie is on a date with the bartender vampire. She, of course, is oblivious to the fact that he is a vampire and they share stories about friends from the past. She calls Elena on a trip to the bathroom telling her she is too shy to make a move on the hot bartender. Elena tells her to seize the day and so Bonnie decides to do it.
Ulrich has made a copy of the journal and given it to Stefan but Stefan is careful not to tell Damon who is now on his way to the bar to see Ana. We flash back again to the past where Pearl, Damon, and Katherine are discussing the problem of vervain in town. Pearl and Katherine are not worried that anyone will find out their secret because they think no one would ever suspect them. Damon comes back to the present in time to see Ana enter the bar and remembers her immediately as the daughter of Pearl from his past life.
Stefan and Elena are upstairs going through the journal Gilbert has written about the Grimoire that belonged to Emily and how Giuseppe has sworn to help him protect the book all the way to his grave. Stefan thinks back to a conversation with his father and how his father mentioned that his grave will be full with the secrets he will take with him. Stefan tells his father that he is concerned about the plan to kill all vampires – perhaps all of them are not bad? Giuseppe tells him they are from hell and they must be destroyed. He basically tells him that if he does not help, he will be killed also. The flashback to this conversation helps Stefan realize that the spell book is in the grave with his father. Stefan and Elena go to his father’s grave to find it. Stefan flashes back to a conversation with Katherine and how he wants her to stop seeing Damon. She has both brothers under her spell and it is on this day that she tries to turn Stefan. She bites him and gets sick immediately because Giuseppe has fed him vervain. Giuseppe makes Stefan run for the sheriff knowing that his son has been under her spell.
Damon has found Ana in the future but she was expecting him. They go back to her hotel and discuss the situation. Ana had actually been around the whole time trying to find the spell book and after much research she had also figured out that Giuseppe had it somewhere. Damon tells her he is leaving but in actuality we know he is going to look for the book himself. Stefan and Elena dig up the grave and they find the book everyone is after. Naturally, just a she opens it, Damon shows up knowing they had double crossed him. Stefan tells him that he could never allow Damon to open the tomb. Damon tells Stefan if he destroys the book he will kill Elena and turn her into a vampire. So Damon finally gets the book. He flashes back to the night the town decided to hunt the vampires. Katherine is locked in chains and Damon begs his father to help her. His father stops Damon from helping her and she is entombed. Damon blames everything that went wrong on Stefan because, on the night of the hunt, Damon realizes that Stefan had told his father about vampires and gotten Katherine locked away. That is the reason for the hatred Damon has always felt for Stefan. The night of the hunt, Ana and Pearl try to hide. Gilbert kills Pearl even though he wanted her – the compass identified her as a vampire. My goodness, each Vampire Diaries episode is jam packed with surprises.
Bonnie is still on her date with the vampire bartender and she works up the nerve to kiss him. She realizes something is not right and leaves to go to the bathroom. She tries to sneak out the back door but the vampire is too fast for her and he ‘helps’ her out the back door. He is in bad vampire mode so there is no telling what is going to happen to Bonnie – hopefully, her super witch powers will come in handy.
A great cliffhanger ends this episode of the Vampire Diaries on the CW as Stefan finds out when Jeremy brings Ana home. When he realizes who Ana is, he goes running to find Elena but both Ana and Elena have disappeared – leaving only an open window behind them. Two kidnappings in one show makes for great drama, it leaves us all waiting with bated breath to see what happens next week.
The cliffhanger ending from the last Vampire Diaries episode, The Turning Point, was nicely continued as the new season of Vampire Diaries on the CW began with Bloodlines. The man or ‘thing’ that Elena hit at the end of the last episode walks up to the car as she is screaming and then it just miraculously runs off at super speed as – lo and behold – Vampire Diaries bad boy Damon shows up to save her. She says she is fine but then begins to pass out, but not before saying “I look like her”. I guess she is referring to Katherine, the Civil War era vampire who turned Stefan and Damon back in the day. After having an accident, the first thing I might remember would be the freaky guy that almost got me killed instead of Stefan’s ex-girlfriend, but then, maybe that’s just me….
It seems like Ulrich is going to be playing a much bigger part in the shows now that we know he kills vampires. After Elena is rescued by Damon, the scene switches to Ulrich sitting in front of a computer, drinking coffee as we hear his thoughts about killing a vampire and the evil that inhabits Mystic Falls. There is a picture of a woman near Ulrich and a backflash of a happy moment between them is seen until it comes back to the present, and he sits and looks tragically out through the window.
Elena wakes up in the car with Damon and he tells her they are in Georgia. She is upset because no one knows where they are and she accuses him of kidnapping her. My fantasy come true! Oops, I digress….Elena’s phone begins to ring with a call from Stefan and Damon answers it – which, of course, upsets Stefan as intended. She still does not want to talk to Stefan but she definitely wants to go home. Damon talks her into staying with him to go to ‘a little place he knows’ for just five minutes to have a good time and she actually falls for his charming side. She decides to go.
Vampire Diaries good guy Stefan goes to the school to see Bonnie, hoping she can help him with a spell. He explains that Damon has Elena and he hopes she can use Elena’s necklace to see if she is alright. For some reason, Bonnie’s power will not work and she quickly departs. Elena and Damon are wondering about the strange vampire she hit on the road, but neither one of them have an answer. When they arrive at the little bar outside of Atlanta, the owner, Bree, is quite happy to see him and the two of them kiss like there’s no tomorrow while Elena stands uncomfortably off to the side. Next, Bree toasts him for breaking her heart 30 years before but she does not seem to hold a grudge. She is a witch and she knows that Damon wants something – it’s Damon, he always wants something.
Jeremy is back in Mystic Falls at the library when he meets a new Vampire Diaries character, Anna. She helps him do research about local folklore on vampires. She tells him about a journal her grandfather showed her. There seems to be a spark between those two, I believe. Bonnie is back at home freaking out that she has lost her powers and her grandmother tries to help her, telling Bonnie that she must be afraid of something and it is blocking her powers. She has to clear her mind.
Damon wants his witch friend, Bree, to write a new spell that will override the spell from the tomb and release Katherine. To confront her fear, Bonnie returns to Katherine’s tomb where she had been used by Emily, her ancestor, to stop it from being opened. She plunges down into a deep hole at the tomb, slightly injured but able to walk. She turns to see a pentagram on the wall that scares her but she walks up to it anyway. It is the door behind which the vampires are trapped, she can hear them behind the wall.
Elena calls Stefan and, although she is still angry at him – who wants their first time with a guy to end with seeing your look alike’s picture in his room – she wants answers! Stefan tells her that he really doesn’t know. She hangs up on Stefan and Damon asks her if she is okay while Bree takes this moment to call someone and tell them ‘you will never guess who just walked into the bar’.
Stefan goes to Bonnie’s house and the grandmother tells him to keep Bonnie safe because she knows he can be trusted – even if he is a vampire. Bonnie is still trying to find a way out of the hole when Stefan pops up behind her and scares the living daylights out of her. He helps her out of the hole and tells her that she is safe because the crystal has been destroyed and the vampires trapped there can never get out.
Elena and Damon are getting drunk back at the bar as the owner makes eye contact with a strange man who has arrived. Elena gets a call from Jenna and she runs outside to try and hide the bar noise from her aunt. The strange man drags her behind the building causing Damon to go searching for her and he sees her just as the strange man attacks him and knocks him down. The man turns out to be another vampire who wants revenge because Damon killed his girlfriend, Lexi, Stefan’s blond vampire friend from Vampire Diaries Episode 8. He pours gasoline all over Damon and begins to light it when Elena begs for his life. He lets Damon go and runs away. Now there’s a twist…Elena wanting Damon to live. I wonder what the Vampire Diaries TV show writers have in mind . . .
Damon returns to the bar to confront Bree because he knows she turned him in. Actually, he just kills her but not before she tells him that if he finds Emily’s grimoire, he can open the tomb. Elena and Damon leave Georgia with Elena none the wiser about yet another murder on Damon’s doorstep.
Elena confronts Stefan about lying to her as soon as she gets back. She wants the truth – does he want her or a Katherine look-alike? He tells her he has loved her since he met her the day her parent’s car drove off the bridge. He saved her from the wreck and he has been hers ever since that day. He had seen her resemblance to Katherine, but he spent the year learning that she was not like Katherine and he loved her for who she was. He tells her that he found out that she was actually adopted – she is not really a Gilbert but a Pierce just like Katherine was a Pierce. Yeah, another Vampire Diaries surprise!
Anne brings Jeremy information about deaths in the Mystic Falls area for the last 75 years that were all animal attacks, where the victims were drained of blood. She wants to prove to Jeremy that maybe vampires truly exist because of a conversation they had earlier. He is intrigued and I think that perhaps he will be getting up close and personal with Anne very soon.
Elena returns home to find Jenna angry with her for not telling her where she’s been. Elena is equally angry with Jenna for never telling her she was adopted.
Ulrich is sitting quietly in a bar when Damon walks in and triggers the memory we all knew Ulrich has been hiding – Damon drinking blood from his wife. Does everybody want to kill Damon? I wonder how Ulrich is going to exact his revenge? What about the mystery man that Elena encountered on the road – is he a good guy or a bad guy? Here’s hoping next week’s Vampire Diaries episode will give us some more answers . . .
There are lots of places to watch The Vampire Diaries Online. Many of the online sites have the videos but they usually force you to do one of the following:
-click on an ad
-download software
-take a survey
I personally don’t trust sites like that because I’m concerned that the ads might be installing spyware on my computer. I’m also concerned that some of the surveys ask for personal information like your home address.
Therefore, I recommend that you watch The Vampire Diaries online from a trusted source: The CW website. So, for your convenience I’m including links to each of the full episodes at The CW website. Yes, you have to download their Movie Media Player but it’s a really small piece of software. It downloads in about 2 seconds and installs in about 3 seconds. And since it’s hosted at The CW website you don’t have to worry about it installing spyware.
Get your videos from a trusted source. Here are the links to The Vampire Diaries episodes at The CW site:
Enjoy!
