The Red Cross has come up with a brilliant campaign to encourage high school and college kids to give blood. They have a new slogan called “Starve a Vampire. Donate Blood” which I think is wonderful.
They’re trying to capitalize on the current buzz surrounding The Vampire Diaries by teaming up with The CW Network to give away free t-shirts to anyone that donates at specified locations. The new blood drive will run for 5 weeks starting the week of August 25th and take place at over 230 different high schools and colleges. They’re hoping that at least 3,400 people donate blood during the campaign.
Students will register for times to donate blood through their schools.
The schools will have special “Vampire Diaries” snacks available for students that donate. While donating students will also get to watch special footage from the TV show. In addition to giving away free t-shirts schools will also give away “fang floss” and “sunscream”, which is sunscreen with a Vampire Protection Factor of 1,000!
This is the type of forward thinking that I love to see. Kudos to Alloy Media + Marketing for coming up with such a catchy phrase and appealing campaign. Not only does it promote the show to the demo that’s likely to watch, it also gets young people (like me) to contribute to a good cause.
Here’s hoping they exceed their blood donation expectations!

It appears that Elena from The Vampire Diaries TV show has been a naughty girl.
It was just released that Nina Dobrev, the female lead on the TV show was arrested last month in Georgia with 3 other female cast members, one female actress (not associated with the show) and a photographer.
The charge? Disorderly Conduct.
It seems the girls were staging their own photo shoot one afternoon on a bridge overlooking a highway. They were prancing around, straddling and hanging over a bridge rail – all the while acting oblivious to the traffic and motorists witnessing their stunts.
They were taken in, booked, and charged fines. According to the local police they were all quite cooperative once the cops showed up.
Here’s Nina Dobrev’s mug shot.
Either the studio was unsuccessful covering this up or they decided to release this information as a way to drum up additional buzz about the TV show . . . your thoughts?
